Welcome to ‘Mooy leren’, Dutch language tutoring in Amsterdam Buitenveldert
My name is Manja Mooy. Ever since I was a little child I loved reading and learning. Now as an adult I still value self-development and I love intellectual challenge. I believe that every child has an intrinsic motivation for learning.
My mission at ‘Mooy leren’ is to find that motivation in my students. I guide each individual student in a way that suits his or her needs, with always the idea in mind that learning can and should be fun.
The specialisation of Mooy leren is guiding multilingual children who are in a Dutch school. In principle, these children speak Dutch very well, often because they have lived in the Netherlands all their lives. But you can still get gaps if Dutch is not spoken at home, especially in the field of vocabulary.
The aim of the lessons is strengthening their Dutch language skills. We do this in a playful but educational way.
About me
Not long after I graduated from VU University: cultural anthropology (master) and philosophy (bachelor), I have started working as a location-manager at Studiekring, I have done that for 10 years. In this time I taught homework-class, was a study-mentor and coached the teachers that gave bijles there. In this time also I followed and organized workshops in the field of education.
I've been teaching 'Dutch as a second language' as a professional and as a volunteer for neighbours with a refugee background for many years with great pleasure. I am certified as a child coach.
As a private business I started ‘Mooy leren’ in january 2020 and I enjoy that a lot. For every new student that starts with me, I see for myself a challenge in finding the best way to guide this particular person. For the lessons to children I developed my own method, combining reading and games.
I often hear from parents that their children enjoy my lessons very much, and are looking forward to my arrival each week.
I’ve had students from all over the world. A lot of the parents of my students are born in India. Also I’ve had students born in, or with parents from, amongst others, Egypt, England, Ethiopia, Irak, Israel, Italy, Kazachstan, Poland, Soedan, South-Africa, Syria, Turkey and Ukraine.
I'm the mother of 14-yo Adam and 10-yo River.
